Conductor: David Curtis
Brahms, Academic Festival Overture
Elgar, Sea Pictures Emma Roberts – mezzo-soprano
Dvořák, Symphony No.7
The CSO opens its 2023-24 season with an eclectic collection of reminiscences in orchestral form.
Brahms takes us back to student days with the ever-popular Academic Festival Overture, inspired by the raucous drinking songs so popular with students of the time.
A collection of five poems evoking the varying nature of the sea were set to music by Edward Elgar as a collection of songs in his Sea Pictures for which the CSO will be joined by mezzo-soprano soloist, Emma Roberts.
Dvořák’s Symphony No.7 is a powerful reflection on the struggles of the people of his Czech homeland and is considered by many as Dvořák’s finest symphony.
