SUMMARY:Mithras Trio - CMS 2023/24
DESCRIPTION:MOVED TO: Parabola Arts Centre\nFormed in 2017\, already multiple international prize-winners and BBC New Generation Artists in 2021-23\, the Mithras Piano Trio has quickly established itself as one of the next generation’s most exciting and accomplished ensembles. Praised for ‘exquisite phrasing’\, ‘full-blooded commitment’ and ‘bold\, passionate colours’\, their intriguing programme reflects their constant search for unjustly neglected repertoire. They will play the piano trio by Tailleferre\, Saint-Saëns’ first trio and Beethoven’s “Archduke”.

SUMMARY:Sir Stephen Hough Plays Dvorak
DESCRIPTION:Moved to Parabola Arts Centre.\n\nFollowing a sold-out Rachmaninov series\, Bristol Classical Players are delighted to welcome back international concert pianist Sir Stephen Hough\, to perform Dvorak’s beautiful and underrated Piano Concerto. \nOvershadowed by his Cello Concerto\, this lovely work gives full reign to Dvorak’s vein of fantasy and delight in the natural world. It speaks of the woods and wildlife of his native Bohemia\, alternating storms with passages of the most gentle stillness and reflection. \nThe concert begins deep in the woods too\, with the overture to Weber’s groundbreaking opera Der Freischutz; this mixture of love story and ghostly fable includes the still-terrifying Wolf’s Glen Scene\, and the overture conjures up its unique combination of joyous melody and spooky noises-off to perfection. Brahms’s mighty First Symphony\, nicknamed ‘Beethoven’s 10th’ at the time\, remains one of the greatest works in music history\, a masterpiece that Brahms perfected over more than 20 years’ work and which ends with a trombone chorale bringing the music into purest daylight.

SUMMARY:Belcea Quartet - CMS 2023/24
DESCRIPTION:MOVED TO: Parabola Arts Centre\nPrize-winners in 1997 in the London International String Quartet Competition\, the Belcea Quartet are one of the world’s leading chamber ensembles. Their programme includes Beethoven’s quartets op.18 no.4 and op.127 and Bartok’s first quartet. SUMMARY:Pittville Pump Room Comedy Club - November 2023
DESCRIPTION:Remember\, remember it’s the 10th of November (doesn’t quite have the same impact as the 5th but you get what we’re trying to do here). The only thing blowing up around here is more fantastic stand-up at our regular stand-up comedy club.November fun-fire-crackers are Steve Day\, Jessie Nixon\, El Baldhiniho and compered by the fantastic Dani Johns.Do note that lines ups are subject to changeSteve DaySteve Day describes himself as Britain’s only deaf comedian\, if there are any others he hasn’t heard. Actually there are a couple of others who have started since he wrote that joke\, but it’s only a joke after all.For the past eleven years Steve has been performing to huge laughter around the country and abroad\, well they tell him the laughter was huge to humour him\, he doesn’t know either way.Steve Day is a truly unique comedian – warm\, witty and engaging whilst dealing with the dilemmas of being a deaf man in a hearing world. Steve went on his first national tour back in 2006\, and has since been performing across the world to critical acclaim. “Revelatory and very funny” – The GuardianJessie NixonJessie’s credits include tour support for Fern Brady\, Alfie Brown\, and Lou Sanders. She has an impressive roster of achievements under her belt as third runner up in the Funny Women Stage Awards 2022 as well as BBC New Comedian of the Year Regional Finalist 2021\, Leicester Mercury Comedian of the year Nominee 2021\, and more!Between her effervescent\, winning comedy\, and her growing list of accolades\, Nixon is an act not to be missed.Tour support for Fern Brady\, Steve Bugeja\, Alfie Brown and Lou SandersDani JohnsBorn and bred Bristolian Dani Johns is described as a “smart\, clever pocket rocket of a comedian” whose “sassy delivery captivates every audience member”. Dani is an instantly likeable act with an impressive and increasing list of accolades (including BBC New Comedy Award\, Funny Women Stage Award and Komedia Bath Act of the Year Award). With an energetic mix of story telling and serious over sharing\, she’s been named as one of the best new comics on the scene and is taking the circuit by storm. Even Jason Manford said she’s great. El BaldinihoOne of the most versatile newer acts on the circuit\, his brand of magic comedy and spoof mind-reading always hits the spot – whether at professional comedy clubs\, cabaret nights\, theatre shows\, student nights\, family friendly festivals or events for children.
